Training
Central to our mission is to provide training courses to potential counsellors, supervisors and pastoral carers on a local, national and international basis.
The Manna House, having learned much from over forty-three years of service is able to offer a diversity of courses (CPCAB accredited) ranging from one-off, single subject, evening seminars to two year part-time Diploma training in integrated and person centred counselling.
Our 'Introduction to Christian Counselling' Level 2 Training Course accredited by the Counselling and Psychotherapy Central Awarding Body (CPCAB), is designed to be of wide interest to anyone interested in pastoral care and counselling. Open to all it will primarily help you to determine your interest in and/or suitability as a pastoral carer and/or a trained counsellor. Not only is it helpful for those who wish to explore the whole area of counselling, but also is ideal training for house group leaders, pastoral care teams, youth leaders, community support workers, lay workers, etc. There are various options for study both in-person and on-line, daytime and evening. The course is a balance of theory and skills which should give you sufficient grounding to start out in pastoral care and counselling and move towards gaining accreditation with the ACC, BACP or a similar governing body. For organisations, this course can be arranged anywhere in the U.K. with a minimum number of 12 students. Please speak with the Training Manager for more details. This is a tailor-made bespoke Counselling Award certified by the Counselling and Psychotherapy Central Awarding Body (CPCAB) as a Level 2 Award in Introduction to Christian Counselling (TM2A/A) and students completing it will obtain 6 educational credits in Further Education. Following successful completion of this course, students will be eligible to apply for further training with Manna House at Level 3, but please note entry requirements for other Training Providers may vary.
The Level 3 Certificate in Christian Counselling is for those who have already completed a recognised Level 2 Introduction to Counselling Course or equivalent. It takes a more in depth look at the whole subject of Christian counselling and is aimed at those who clearly feel a calling to the ministry of counselling and to potential pastoral care workers. A blended course which normally runs over 30 weeks, one evening a week online (18.15 - 21.15) plus 6 weekends (Friday evening and all day Saturday). It is a mixture of Counselling Theory, Skills and Practical Applications. There are weekly lectures, including group discussions, role plays and nine written assignments to be completed. This course can be arranged anywhere in the U.K. with a minimum number of 12+ students. Outside Northampton the hosts would be expected to provide a suitably equipped venue. Our Level 3 course has been validated by the Counselling and Psychotherapy Central Awarding Body and is tailor-made to Manna House with our Christian model of counselling (Qualification Code: TM3C/H). Students successfully completing the course will obtain 16 educational credits.
The 'Counselling and Psychotherapy Central Awarding Body' (CPCAB) have validated our newly revised and updated Manna House Counselling Service 'Diploma in Christian Counselling'. This comprehensive course meets all the latest stringent requirements and expectations of the professional counselling community (PCPB - Partnership of Counselling and Psychology Bodies.) Students need to successfully complete Year 1 before progressing to Year 2. Students must attend a minimum of 85% of the course in order to pass. The Total Guided Learning Hours (GLH) for the whole course are 420 hours over two years. In addition to the GLH students are expected to fulfil a range of criteria and undertake personal study. Students will need to register themselves with ACC, BACP or other similar governing body from the beginning of the course. Acceptance on to the course is dependent upon satisfactory references, prior learning at recognised Level 3 plus a successful interview. Individual interviews are scheduled during June and July. Early application is advised. We teach an Integrated approach to counselling. This fits in well with the '5 Circle Theory' (the Christian model used at MHCS). Therefore knowledge and experience of the '5 Circle Theory' is strongly recommended, but not an essential requirement to start on this course for those willing to do extra prior learning. Each student must complete 100 hours of supervised counselling to obtain their final Diploma. Students can apply to the Manna House to do their 100 hours or organise an alternative placement elsewhere. Please note, students have up to 12 months from the end of academic studies in which to complete the placement. On successful completion students gain a nationally recognised Level 4 Diploma which enables them register with a professional body and access PCPB at Level A as a therapist. In addition, it provides entry into further study at a higher level - PCPB Level B and C. Student must attend a minimum of 85% of the teaching part of the course. This means only being able to miss 63 hours in total over two years. It is a demanding and intensive training. For further information contact the Training Administrator.
